According to Rev. Msgr. Brown, some people demand signs from God “on their own terms.” For him, this is like putting God on trial, which is disobedience for what the Scriptures say in Luke 4:12: “Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”

Sadly, in spite of God’s revelations in the Scriptures and in people’s everyday lives, questions such as “Is there really a God?” and “Does miracle really exist?” are usually asked by many. This same type of doubt can be seen in the Gospel during the “feeding of the five thousand.”

Rev. Msgr. Patrick E. Brown believes that we should never put God on trial.

During the event, Jesus addressed someone from the crowd, saying “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.”(John 6:26).

Truly, it is a sad fact that some people look for evidence of God’s work by sight and not by faith. Many times, it is only when things are going well for them that they believe and follow Jesus.

In remembering Christ’s resurrection, Rev. Msgr. Brown encourages everyone to believe that Jesus is present “in word,” “in spirit,” “in sacrifice,” and “in communion.” He also reminded everyone to thank Jesus for “dying for us” and for “showing us how to die for others.”
